ATAAHUA ORA

We started our summer voyages in Tenerife - which technically is in Europe, since it belongs to Spain, along with the rest of the Canary Islands. Really though, as soon as you arrive in Tenerife you stop feeling like a European and shift into holiday mode straight away. Palm trees, beaches, warm water - but also architecture, history and culture. A perfect mix for a perfect escape.

We were lucky to be able to spend the week in Playa de las Americas, Tenerife’s party central, with easy access to all the amenities but far away from the hustle and bustle of the main strip. My family’s friends own a studio apartment there and they very kindly agreed to let it to us for a week. We invited Kalina & Ben to come along and organised a second studio for them in the same building (which, by the way, was very cheap - 200 euros for a studio for a full week!). The hotel was Apartamentos Borinquen. Our studio had everything we could imagine we would need, including beach mats and our new favourite beach pastime: beach tennis. The kitchenette was so well equipped we decided to make most of our meals in house - a great decision, as the food in the supermarket was very fresh and cheap and the restaurants overpriced and not that fantastic. We went shopping on the first day and emerged with 1kg of Gouda cheese (which we ate in the first 3 days), wine for under 2 euros a bottle (and it was great! Especially the E1.50 lambrusco!) and enough olives to feed an army. We then supplemented our supplies every second day with a new jar of olives (I think it was because we were sweating so much due to the heat and we needed the salt and minerals - the olives were delicious!) and fresh bread. On the last day we also got 1kg of prawns and had them for dinner - YUM!!!

Anyway, I think photos will do a much better job of showing just how much we enjoyed our week in Tenerife - so here are the first three albums: Playa de las Americas, Santa Cruz and Playa de las Teresitas. Enjoy! More to come soon.

Lato rozpoczęliśmy wyjazdem na Teneryfę - która teoretycznie wciąż leży w Europie, należąc do Hiszpanii. Prawda jest jednak taka, że w momencie wylądowania na wyspie człowiek przełącza się na tryb wakacyjny i Europa pozostaje tylko wspomnieniem. Palmy, plaże, ciepła woda w Atlantyku - ale również architektura, historia i kultura to idealny przepis na udane wakacje.

Dzięki uprzejmości przyjaciół rodziny, państwu Dzióbkom, spędziliśmy tydzień w ich apartamencie w miejscowości Playa de las Americas. Wzięliśmy ze sobą Kalinę i Bena, dla których wynajęliśmy drugi pokój w tym samym hotelu (tanio! 200 euro za tydzień pobytu!!!). Hotel nazywał się Apartamentos Borinquen. “Nasz” apartament był tak świetnie wyposażony we wszystko, czego tylko moglibyśmy potrzebować (od mat plażowych do widelców), że zdecydowaliśmy się na gotowanie własnych posiłków - co okazało się bardzo trafną decyzją. Jedzenie w supermarkecie było tanie i świeże, a restauracje drogawe i jedzenie wcale nie takie wspaniałe. Co drugi dzień kupowaliśmy słój oliwek, tak nam smakowały - ja myślę, że to z powodu tego, że się dużo pociliśmy i potrzebowaliśmy uzupełniać sole i minerały. Do tego dużo sera - kilogram Goudy zakupiony w pierwszy dzień został pożarty w całości do dnia trzeciego. I wina - butelki poniżej 2 euro okazały się wyśmienite, zwłaszcza butelki lambrusco za 1.50 euro. Na ostatnią kolację kupiliśmy kilogram świeżych krewetek i były po prostu niesamowite!

W każdym razie, myślę, że zdjęcia lepiej oddadzą klimat naszego pobytu, więc tutaj są trzy pierwsze albumy: Playa de las Americas, Santa Cruz i Playa de las Teresitas. Więcej dojdzie trochę później. Miłego oglądania!
