Uretiti and kung-fu!
One long weekend down - one more to go! We left on Saturday afternoon and headed to Uretiti Beach - which is on Bream Bay, just south of Whangarei. One of our favourite summer destinations - the beach is wide, the sand is white and surf is usually rocking. The camp is managed by DOC, which means two things: it’s cheap ($7 per person per night) and very basic (no hot water or electricity). But who needs hot water when the beach is only 50m away from your tent? Our three days there were spent on surfing (OK, OK, trying to stand up on the board - and we’re both getting pretty good!), floating in the warm water, lying on the beach reading, lying in moonchairs reading and occasionally sipping a cold beer. Aaaah, life!
All good things must come to an end, though, and so we packed up around midday on Monday and headed to Auckland (in the worst traffic yet - we took SH16 and averaged 60km/h. Infuriating!) where we spent the evening with Agata & Tomasz watching 36th Chamber of Shaolin on a huge blow-up screen in Western Springs. A great end to a great weekend, if a little cold around 11pm…
