Pearls of wisdom

Q: What is the best way to stop wisdom leaking out of the hole left by an extracted wisdom tooth?
A: Plug it with salty water!
Also, my dentist told me to rinse my mouth with salty water after every meal. So it couldn’t have hurt. So we went to Mt Maunganui for the weekend.
Mt Maunganui Beach
Mt Maunganui is in the Bay of Plenty, which is about 2.5h drive south-east of Auckland.
I love the Pacific Ocean! The white beaches, the regular waves, the incredibly salty cold water - nothing beats this! And the level of relaxation reached when laying on the sand with closed eyes and listening to the beating surf…. Enough said. Pity the summer is ending.

Today we are awaiting the arrival of Lukas’ parents, visiting us for Easter. This is their first visit since they left to go to Sydney 4 years ago. I’m excited and Lukas is very happy. It will be interesting having 5 people live in our 2 bedroom housie. Keep in mind, one bedroom is ‘the study’ and sleeping in it will invariably end with at least one motherboard part stuck to your cheek. Not mentioning the graphics cards. They have very sharp edges.

Weekend in White

White Restaurant, that is. Thanks to the generosity of Symantec and my persistance to finish a recent project, where I was the only developer both me and Lukas were treated to a dinner at one of Auckland’s best restaurants. Located in the Hilton Hotel on Princess Wharf, the view is hard to beat. At the same time as we were dining, a cruise liner was just departing Auckland and we had a chance to peek into it’s bowels, one of the decks was on the same level as the restaurant. Impressive. The dinner itself was great - probably the best scallops I have ever had and Lukas felt the same about his steak fillet.

With their prices though, I don’t think we’ll be back soon. The cheapest bottle of wine was about the same price as what we would usually pay for a dinner for two at another restaurant - needless to say, we stuck with water (not much cheaper than a glass of wine but at least you get a bottle of it!).
Antipodes Water

After the dinner we went for a walk on the Viaduct, where there was a boat show held over the weekend. I don’t think any of those boats are going anywhere in a hurry! Still, a very cool view.

After so much pampering on Friday night, we spent the rest of the weekend rather actively - building the last remaining step to our deck. You wouldn’t have thought it would take a day and a half! I guess we don’t have enough experience with these things.

Good morning world!

Here we go, my first proper post. The main purpose of this blog is to record interesting events in our lives - namely, the upcoming trip to Poland and Italy in May this year. No need to say - we’re REALLY excited! But I guess I need to test this before we go and also it takes a while to get into the swing of things, in my case, once I start writing it may be hard to stop…
